The Gastivists Collective is a small team of motivated people, active in a variety of climate and oppression-related struggles in several different countries. While opposition to gas infrastructure is our starting point, the struggles we are involved in intersect with issues like militarisation, land rights, geopolitical conflicts and energy democracy. These intersecting struggles inform our work and our goals.
We envision a world in which alternatives to (fossil) capitalism and its energy systems have become inescapable.

What's new

🎲 Climate collapse & rise of the far right – what can go wrong? 🎲

A new Gastivists zine is out! And we want to talk about it!

As more and more governments shift to the right, we believe it is vital that the climate movement respond to these political shifts, and take up the challenge of understanding the links between the rise of fascism and climate/energy justice. We hope this zine can spark strategic discussions on how climate justice work needs adapting to integrate this changing political landscape. Read it online here & feel free to print and share.

And to facilitate those kind of discussions we are hosting two online meetings to start talking about it together; you are warmly invited! We will start with a short presentation of the zine, but assuming everyone has read it, move on to critical and strategic discussions to understand how the landscape has changed and how our strategies have adapted already, or could adapt.

Meeting 1; Tuesday, 9th of September, 18-19.30 CEST – for discussions focussed on grassroots strategies and movements, tactics like mutual aid organizing and civil disobedience.

Meeting 2; Wednesday 10th of September, 13.0-14.30 CEST – for more institutional organizations who do more lobbying and political work.

Renewable energy – a tool for oppression or liberation?

Learnings from the state of Israel

Sometimes it’s hard to understand why people fight against renewable energy projects. And sometimes, it’s not that hard, you just have to listen.

In the Golan Heights, the Druze community is fighting against a wind turbine project backed by the state of Israel. Genesis Wind would meet wind production goals for the state of Israel but would also serve as a tool for land theft and colonial expansion. Read more about this here.

cop 29 host azerbaijan is using renewables to greenwash ethnic cleansing

In the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, a renewable energy project is providing cover-up for Azerbaijan’s recent ethnic cleansing of Armenians and its disastrous environmental record. Read our report (a short read in the summary, deep dive in the full report), spread the word, and contact us if you would like to collaborate around this. Read more about this here.
